Horror Hit Reaches Sales Milestone

Resident Evil 4 Remake Surpasses 9 Million Copies Sold: A Capcom Triumph

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake has achieved phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold since its March 2023 release. This milestone follows the game's earlier achievement of 8 million sales, showcasing its enduring popularity. The surge in sales is likely attributed to the February 2023 release of the Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition and a subsequent iOS port late in 2023.

The remake, a significant departure from the survival horror roots of the original 2005 game, shifted the gameplay towards a more action-oriented experience. Players follow Leon S. Kennedy as he confronts a dangerous cult to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham.

The CapcomDev1 Twitter account celebrated this achievement with celebratory artwork featuring beloved characters like Ada Wong, Krauser, and Saddler. A recent update further enhanced the game's performance, particularly for PS5 Pro users.

Record-Breaking Sales and Fan Expectations

Resident Evil 4's sales trajectory is unprecedented within the franchise. According to Alex Aniel, author of Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, it's the fastest-selling Resident Evil game to date. This surpasses even Resident Evil Village, which reached 500,000 copies sold in its eighth quarter.

This remarkable success fuels anticipation for future Capcom releases. Many fans eagerly await a Resident Evil 5 remake, a possibility strengthened by the relatively short timeframe (just over a year) between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica also hold significant potential for modern remakes, given their importance to the overarching narrative. Naturally, the announcement of a Resident Evil 9 would also be met with immense excitement.
