Author : Emily May 25,2025

Alienware has unveiled its 2025 lineup of gaming laptops, introducing the "Alienware Aurora" series. The first 16" models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, priced at $1,949.99, is the more budget-friendly option, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP. For those seeking higher performance, the Alienware Aurora 16X, at $2,299.99, boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP. Both models will start shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both laptops offer the option to upgrade to RTX 5060 graphics, though these are currently on preorder with no confirmed shipping date due to the RTX 5060's upcoming release.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops break away from the traditional gamer aesthetic of previous Alienware models, like the Area-51, opting for a sleeker, more conventional design. These laptops feature a slim profile and minimal RGB lighting, with the Aurora 16 sporting only white keyboard illumination reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their understated exteriors, both models are equipped with high-performance components and a robust Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter due to its more efficient components, such as a low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. Conversely, the Aurora 16X, designed with a slightly thicker and heavier build, accommodates more robust cooling to support its more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with a higher 115W TGP.

Priced significantly lower than the new Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000, the Aurora series offers an affordable yet powerful alternative. They are also more portable, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than the Area-51 16" laptop. Given the potential increase in Nvidia GPU prices, as reported by Tom's Hardware, these prices are not expected to drop soon.

Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model

For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Aurora 16X stands out as the superior choice. For just $300 more, you gain a host of significant upgrades, making the investment worthwhile. Here's a detailed look at what you get for the extra cost:

  • Better display: 2560x1600 resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate and G-Sync, compared to the Aurora 16's 120Hz.
  • More powerful CPU: An Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX versus the Aurora 16's Intel Core 9 270H.
  • Higher TGP for RTX 5070: 115W TGP versus 85W TGP.
  • Double the RAM: 64GB instead of 32GB.
  • Double the storage: 2TB instead of 1TB.
  • Better material: A full metal chassis, top and bottom, as opposed to just the top.
  • RGB keyboard: Enhanced customization options.
  • Thunderbolt 4.0: For faster connectivity.
