As if they could resist bringing back Alicia Silverstone in that legendary yellow-and-plaid outfit. The beloved actress is reportedly returning to her star-making role as Cher Horowitz for a Clueless sequel series headed to Peacock.
Variety reports the streaming platform currently has the project in development, though plot specifics remain under wraps. Confirmed details include Silverstone's participation, confirmation that the series will continue the story from the original 1995 cult classic, and key creative personnel. Notably, this marks Peacock's second stab at reviving Clueless, following a separate abandoned attempt back in 2020.
The Creative Minds Behind Cher's Comeback
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl original series and reboot) will serve as writers alongside Jordan Weiss. The trio will also executive produce with original Clueless filmmaker Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence. Production will be handled by CBS Studios and Universal Television.
This isn't Hollywood's first attempt to translate Cher's Beverly Hills adventures to television. The 1996-1999 ABC/UPN series starred Rachel Blanchard as Cher after Silverstone passed on the project, though it never captured the original film's magic.
Silverstone recently delighted fans by briefly reprising Cher for Rakuten's 2023 Super Bowl ad—proving she's been ready to raid those designer closets again. Frankly, we're totally buggin' about this news.
