Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 in a clever way that fans are buzzing about. In a celebratory video released on April 25, marking the impressive milestone of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4, the development team shared a glimpse of Ada Wong conversing with a notorious villain. The scene quickly shifts to Leon, surrounded by an infected crowd wearing party hats, making their way to a church.
The video then transitions to a rock song, featuring Dr. Salvador playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar—an unexpected twist. The camera pans to reveal Leon fist-pumping in front of a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed something intriguing: when the sign is turned on its side, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," or the number 9.
While some might argue this could be a mere coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank, crucial for forming the "IX," was absent in earlier parts of the video, suggesting this was an intentional hint. "I know what you did here," said one surprised fan, accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.
Capcom has officially confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, will be helmed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi expressed the challenges of following up on Resident Evil 7, stating, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." There are rumors, though not confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
