Your journey begins in the bustling city of Osaka, situated in the central part of Izumi Settsu. Here, you'll encounter a woman discussing a peculiar game of hunting origami butterflies, which you can also discover scattered around the city. These large paper butterflies, often found pinned to tree trunks with real butterflies fluttering nearby, hold more than just aesthetic appeal. As you collect them, you'll uncover disturbing notes revealing the sinister nature of the Butterfly Collector—a secret society of women intent on kidnapping children from affluent families to gain power and influence.

Determined to thwart their plans, you'll need to track down the five members of this faction scattered throughout the game.

How and Where To Find All Butterfly Collector Members in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, locating the members of the Butterfly Collector involves following geographical clues. We'll help you navigate directly to each target, saving you the trouble of piecing together the puzzle.

Shucho

Your first target, Shucho, can be found in the Fishermen’s District at the southeastern tip of Osaka. Look for a woman in green, frantically searching at an intersection. She has lost the child she kidnapped, who is hiding nearby behind some horses. Use Naoe’s blade or Yasuke’s weapons to take her down and rescue the child.

Mucho

Next, head northwest across the bridge from Shucho's location to reach the Kojo ruins. Here, Mucho poses as a family jochu to get close to her targets. You'll find her struggling with her current mark on the road just south of the ruins. The child's resistance will be your cue to intervene. After defeating Mucho, return the child to her mother and continue your quest.

Richo

Richo, a young woman who disguises herself as someone of higher standing, frequents a bamboo grove in Noda Village, just north of Osaka across the water. Locals might mention a suspicious woman checking on ransom payments. Find Richo dressed in pink within the grove, and decide whether to take her down stealthily or through combat to rescue her latest victim.

Kacho

The leader of the Butterfly Collector, Kacho, is a formidable opponent who has instilled fear and control over her followers. She can be found just north of the Nishinomaru Garden, west of Osaka Castle, in a restricted zone. Look for a spot with many butterflies to locate her. Engage her in conversation and prepare for a deadly confrontation. Her defeat will reveal the final member of the faction.

Gamemaker

The Gamemaker, who initiated the butterfly collecting quest, awaits your judgment back at her marked location on the map. As a former victim herself, she created the game to draw attention to the Butterfly Collector's activities. You must decide whether her actions warrant punishment or a chance for redemption. Choosing the latter allows her to adopt a new identity and start anew.

Upon completing this questline, you'll earn 5,500 XP, bringing you closer to the next level.

And that's how you can effectively locate and dismantle the Butterfly Collector faction in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. For more assistance with the game, be sure to explore resources on The Escapist.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
