Author : Peyton Apr 07,2025

Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts: Game Informer, the beloved gaming publication, is making a triumphant return just over six months after its closure by GameStop in August 2024. The entire team is back, and they're ready to dive into the world of gaming once again. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller announced that Gunzilla Games, the developer behind the free-to-play extraction battle royale game Off the Grid and the blockchain ecosystem GunZ, has acquired the rights to Game Informer from GameStop. This acquisition not only brings back the editorial team but also extends to "production and beyond."

Gunzilla Games, known for their innovative approach to gaming with Off the Grid now in Early Access, is also notable for having Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9 and Chappie, as their chief creative officer and co-founder. Miller emphasized that Gunzilla Games is committed to maintaining Game Informer's independence, ensuring that the editorial team retains full control over content decisions without any external influence.

Game Informer is back! The entire team is returning and we can't wait to reconnect. Come join us to celebrate the best in games, the people who make games, and the people who play games from around the world.

Under the new entity, Game Informer Inc., the publication is set to continue its over 30-year legacy. The team has been busy during their hiatus, preparing "dozens" of new reviews for games released during their absence and their Best of 2024 awards. Fans of the print magazine will be pleased to know that it will also return, with plans to make it "bigger and better than it was before."

In the coming weeks, Game Informer will introduce membership and subscription benefits, expand their video, streaming, and feature coverage, and broaden their range of experts and partnerships. To stay updated and enjoy early benefits such as access to the Game Informer Magazine Archive, an exclusive weekly newsletter, Dark Mode, and Early-Bird Founder Access, interested readers can create a new Game Informer account.
