Many Honkai: Star Rail players are familiar with The Herta, having long anticipated her playable debut after using her puppets in teams since launch. Interestingly, unlike characters like Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae, she shares both her Path and element with her 4-star variant. However, her playstyle is distinct. Her kit focuses on accumulating Interpretation stacks, which are gained whenever any ally attacks and are used to dramatically boost her own damage.

To maximize this potential, prioritize teams with allies who can perform frequent AoE attacks, especially via follow-ups, to generate stacks efficiently.

A key feature is her bonus ability, Message From Beyond the Veil. It grants all allies an extra 80% Crit DMG if there's at least one other Erudition character on the team. This makes The Herta particularly strong in dual-DPS setups paired with another Erudition unit. Below are some of the best team compositions to complement her unique mechanics.

The Herta + Jade + Robin + Lingsha

Best The Herta Premium Team Composition

Pairing The Herta with Jade, Robin, and Lingsha forms her most powerful team on release, as each member perfectly complements her needs. Since The Herta requires frequent, SP-efficient AoE attacks from allies, Jade is her ideal Erudition partner. Jade not only buffs The Herta further but her quick follow-up triggers synergize seamlessly with the stack-building mechanic, especially when The Herta is marked as a Debt Collector.

The remaining slots should include a buffer and a sustain unit. Lingsha is the top sustain choice, as she maintains high ally HP—crucial since The Herta's HP drains as the Debt Collector. Lingsha's own AoE follow-ups also contribute to stack generation. Aventurine is a strong alternative for his powerful shields, though his bouncing follow-up attack is less consistent for stacking than Lingsha's AoE. Other sustains like Huohuo or Fu Xuan offer valuable buffs but attack less frequently.

For the buffer, Robin is optimal. She buffs teamwide follow-up attacks, provides general DMG boosts, and advances turns, which is excellent for speed-based endgame content. If Robin is unavailable, her brother Sunday is a viable alternative focusing more on single-target buffs. Ruan Mei is another excellent, versatile support. These options are also SP-positive, allowing The Herta to use her Skill consistently.

Team Roles

  • The Herta: Main/Sub DPS
  • Jade: Sub-DPS, Support
  • Robin: Support, Buffer
  • Lingsha: Sustain, Sub-DPS, Debuffer

The Herta + Herta + Remembrance Trailblazer + Gallagher

Best The Herta F2P Team Composition

The Herta also has a unique and fun F2P team with Herta, Remembrance Trailblazer, and Gallagher. Among Erudition options, Herta is The Herta's most synergistic partner after Jade, letting players field both versions together. While Herta's follow-up requires enemies below 50% HP, making it less frequent than Jade's, the pair still excel at building Interpretation stacks. Serval is a solid 4-star alternative with strong AoE synergy.

For the third slot, Remembrance Trailblazer shines, especially in Ice-weak content. Even outside that, they perform well alongside The Herta. Their summon, Mem, deals True DMG and buffs team Crit DMG. If Trailblazer is needed elsewhere, Pela is a great substitute, offering AoE attacks, debuffs, and an SP-positive style. Tingyun is another F2P option for ATK and Energy buffs, but her lack of AoE makes her less ideal for stack generation.

For the final sustain spot, Gallagher is a flexible and reliable choice. His SP-positive playstyle and AoE Ultimate offer consistent value, though this slot depends on player availability.

Team Roles

  • The Herta: Main/Sub DPS
  • Herta: Sub-DPS
  • Remembrance Trailblazer: Support, Sub-DPS, Buffer
  • Gallagher: Sustain, Debuffer
