In Hyper Light Breaker, choosing the right weapon is essential for crafting an effective build. Initially, players start with basic loadouts, but as you delve deeper into the game, you'll discover equipment that aligns perfectly with your preferred playstyle. The game blends roguelike and extraction elements, creating a unique approach to acquiring new weapons. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to enhance your arsenal in Hyper Light Breaker.
Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
One of the primary methods to obtain new gear is by exploring Overgrowths. As you traverse the world during a run, you'll naturally come across various items, but for weapons specifically, look for the sword or pistol icons on the map. These icons denote Blades and Rails, respectively.
Blades, which are melee weapons, offer diverse movesets and special abilities, enhancing your close-quarters combat. Rails, on the other hand, are ranged weapons with unique functions that distinguish each one. Both types of weapons come in various rarities, with gold being the most coveted. In line with typical loot-based games, the rarer the weapon, the superior its stats will be.
When you find a weapon in the Overgrowth, you have the option to send it directly to your personal stash by selecting the Cache button rather than Equip. This allows you to equip the weapon for your next run by adjusting your loadout before you set out again.
How to Get New Starting Weapons
In addition to acquiring new weapons during runs, you can also purchase starting gear from merchants located at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, you'll only have access to the Blades merchant. To unlock the Rails merchant, you'll need to gather sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Merchants have a rotating stock of items, so if you don't find what you're looking for at first, be sure to check back later as their inventory refreshes over time.
How to Upgrade Weapons
To enhance your weapons, you can visit the merchants at the Outpost and utilize their upgrade services. However, you must first unlock the Upgrade feature by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource found through world exploration or cycle resets. Due to their rarity, it's crucial to use Golden Rations judiciously.
Keep in mind that if you die, your equipped gear will suffer a durability loss equivalent to one pip, indicated by the bar beneath their icons. Repeated deaths will eventually cause your gear to break, so manage your equipment wisely.
