Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay and Star
Capcom has treated fans to a fresh look at its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The new gameplay footage, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, reveals the game's impressive sword-based combat and formidable enemies.
Leading the charge is the legendary Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi. The trailer highlights not only his exceptional swordsmanship but also his mischievous and humorous personality.
Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late, legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, known for his portrayal of Musashi in numerous samurai films.
The game's setting is a demonic Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
