Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokemon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Don't expect any reveals of Switch 2 Pokemon titles during the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 unveiling, it appears the Pokemon franchise will remain on the original Switch for the foreseeable future. The focus of the February 27th presentation will likely center on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Although Nintendo has yet to officially announce the Switch 2, confirmation of its existence, backward compatibility with the original Switch, and account carryover has been given. Leaks further suggest a performance-enhanced, larger iteration of the original console.

While future Pokemon titles are undoubtedly destined for the Switch 2, insider information indicates that the upcoming Pokemon Presents will showcase games developed for the original Switch, leveraging backward compatibility for the new hardware.

No Switch 2 Pokemon News Anticipated

The February 27th Pokemon Presents will almost certainly include updates on ongoing live-service titles such as Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. Significant news regarding Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year, is also anticipated. While a brief teaser showcased Lumiose City, returning Pokemon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains undisclosed. Rumors also hint at another mainline Pokemon game launching this year.

Speculation suggests a potential release of Pokemon Black and White remakes, or a new Let's Go installment, both exclusively for the original Switch. This aligns with the trend of Pokemon prioritizing established hardware platforms. Similar to the release of Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 on the original DS instead of the 3DS, history might repeat itself.

Therefore, while the possibility of a new mainline game beyond Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Generation 10 exists, its Switch 2 debut is unlikely. The first Switch 2 exclusive Pokemon games will probably be the Generation 10 titles. However, until official confirmation on February 27th, these remain speculations.
