If you're aiming for the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing certain tasks is crucial, and saving Sam is one of them. To ensure you achieve perfection, it's vital to know exactly where to find Sam and how to rescue him effectively.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you near the conclusion of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp. Captured by Brabant, your chance to save him comes during the main quest "Reckoning." You won't be able to simply stroll into the camp and free him; instead, you must decide whether to use stealth or resort to violence.
To move around the camp without raising alarms, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can obtain one by killing a guard and stealing his attire, ensuring you hide the body afterward. Alternatively, a less confrontational approach involves looting the many chests scattered around the camp for an outfit. Once equipped, you can explore the camp freely in search of Sam.

Sam is located in the barn on the left side of the camp, just past the open area with a cooking fire. To reach him, use the ladder on the side of the barn and drop down inside, where you'll confront Brabant. At this juncture, you face a critical decision: you can either kill or spare Brabant. Opting to spare him contributes to achieving the best ending, though the choice is ultimately yours.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escape with him. He'll inform you about von Aulitz, who is also in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to get him out of the camp. Sam can wait safely while you complete these tasks, making this sequence the most efficient approach, especially since you'll need to carry him to the horse.
Von Aulitz is located in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to enter his quarters without issue. Upon finding him, you'll see that von Aulitz is already dying. He requests a dignified death, which is the most honorable choice you can make. Alternatively, you can choose to kill him brutally or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die actually contributes to the best ending.
Your final steps involve retrieving Sam and securing a horse. Sam remains in the barn where you left him. If questioned by a guard about moving him, simply state that you're handling a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Exit the camp through the gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter until you reach the stables.
