According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion, which was set to release this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game, was intended to be a paid story addition to the Harry Potter adventure. However, the project was scrapped this week due to concerns over the content's value relative to the proposed price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amid a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, which is facing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made significant moves, including the cancellation of a planned Wonder Woman game and the closure of the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady Studios just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," reflecting their focus on investing in fewer but larger franchises. The original game has been a massive success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
