James Gunn has officially announced that a new Wonder Woman movie is currently in development and actively being written.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly promoting Superman's upcoming release, DC Studios co-chair Gunn clarified that this Wonder Woman project is distinct from the already announced Paradise Lost HBO Max series.
"We're actively developing Wonder Woman," Gunn confirmed. "The script is currently underway."

Beyond comics, Diana of Themyscira has faced challenges in recent years. Gal Gadot's live-action Wonder Woman franchise stumbled after Wonder Woman 1984's lukewarm reception, the character has lacked a standalone animated series, and her much-anticipated solo video game announced in 2021 was ultimately cancelled.
As IGN's Carlos Morales noted, "At the peak of MCU-DCEU rivalry in the late 2010s, the first Wonder Woman emerged as DC's standout success. The 2017 film garnered critical acclaim and earned $800 million worldwide. Following divisive responses to Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman resonated powerfully with audiences... though its 2020 sequel disappointed critics and underperformed financially."
The sequel debuted simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters amid pandemic-related audience hesitancy.
While a third installment entered development, progress stalled until Gunn's recent announcement. This revival naturally raises questions about who will next portray the iconic Amazonian warrior.
Superman launches Gunn's DCU reboot on July 11, preceding Peacemaker Season 2's August 21, 2025 HBO Max debut. Supergirl arrives June 26, 2026, while Lanterns' release remains undated.
Other confirmed DCU projects include Clayface (September 11, 2026). The Authority faces development hurdles, and Waller – a Peacemaker spinoff – has encountered delays. However, Booster Gold progresses steadily, and Paradise Lost continues development at slower pace.
