This app features a quiz about the classic Japanese "Iroha Uta" phrases.
"Iroha Karuta" is based on the "Iroha Uta," a traditional poem that uses each of the 47 Japanese Hiragana characters exactly once, starting with "" and followed by an additional 48th "Kyo" character. This karuta game uses proverbs where the first kana of the phrase tag corresponds to a character in the poem. Originating in Kyoto during the mid-Edo period, it later spread to Osaka, Nagoya, and Edo. This quiz app uses phrases from the Tokyo style.
