NieR: Automata - Where To Get Filler Metal

Obtaining Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide

Certain upgrade materials in NieR: Automata prove significantly harder to acquire than others. Many drop from enemies, but some, like Filler Metal, appear randomly in the overworld. This inherent randomness makes farming these items challenging.

Early in the game, Filler Metal requires exploration of specific overworld locations. However, a later, albeit expensive, alternative exists.

Locating Filler Metal

Filler Metal is a rare drop found in item spawn points deep within the Factory. Its location varies with each playthrough, and its spawn rate is lower than other items. Accessing the Factory: Hangar fast travel point (unlocked after a main story progression point) provides an efficient starting point for searching. Note that you may need to revisit and unlock this access point again depending on your story progress.

While movement speed boosts can help, reliably farming Filler Metal remains impossible. The most effective approach is simply collecting all naturally spawned items during factory runs. However, purchasing it offers a more straightforward, albeit costly, solution.

Purchasing Filler Metal

The only vendor selling Filler Metal is the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. However, this option only unlocks after completing all three playthroughs and obtaining a final ending. Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after completing the game will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G per unit.

Despite the high cost, purchasing remains more reliable than repeated Factory runs. The Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for completing the game, as enemy levels necessitate these upgrades.
