Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, quashing all rumors and speculation. This revelation comes courtesy of the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, available on both the App Store and Google Play. A keen eye on the app's promotional images reveals the telltale 'C' emblazoned on the button.

The C button was first spotted on the Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the new Joy-Con were devoid of any lettering. Despite this, whispers in the gaming community had already pegged it as the "C" button, a hunch that has now been validated.

Speculation about the button's function is rampant. Some gamers theorize it might enable wireless casting of the Switch 2 to a TV or facilitate screen sharing. Others speculate it could toggle the Joy-Con into a mouse mode, enhancing gameplay versatility. There's also chatter about its potential connection to new group or voice chat features.

With Nintendo announcing a Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, we won't have to wait long for more clarity. Until then, here's a rundown of what we know so far about the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release in 2025, though it's unlikely to hit shelves before June, based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than its predecessor, sporting bigger Joy-Con that appear capable of functioning as a mouse.
  • It features two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Switch 2 boasts backward compatibility, confirmed to play both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as new Switch 2 exclusives. However, some Switch games might not be fully supported.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in the works exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
