BO6 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Crossover Disappoints Fans Due to Exorbitant Prices

Fans are growing increasingly frustrated with the high costs of skins in Black Ops 6, particularly following the latest crossover event with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Dive in to understand why the community is pushing back against Activision's monetization strategies!

Black Ops 6 Facing Backlash From Fans

BO6 Expensive Crossover TMNT Skins

The excitement around Black Ops 6's latest crossover with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles during its Season 2 Reloaded event has been overshadowed by the steep prices of the skins. Fans are voicing their disappointment over the costly unlock system for the beloved characters.

To unlock Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello, players must spend $20 per character. Meanwhile, Master Splinter's skin is available through the $10 Battlepass Premium Track. If you want the full set, you're looking at a hefty $100, not counting the additional $10 for a TMNT-themed weapon blueprint.

What's particularly irking fans is that Black Ops 6 is not a free-to-play game; it retails at $69.99. Many are drawing comparisons to games like Fortnite, where similar skins are more affordably priced. As Reddit user neverclaimsurv pointed out, "That is INSANE. In Fortnite, I think I paid $25.00 for all 4 turtles, and that’s a free game."

Adding to the frustration, the skins purchased in Black Ops 6 are unlikely to carry over to future installments, rendering them a short-term investment. SellMeYourSirin on Reddit highlighted this issue, stating, "It has everything to do with the fact a full price game (that’s likely gonna be replaced within the next year) has THREE tiers of battle passes." For context, while the first tier is free, the other two require additional payment.

Despite the backlash, as the highest-grossing video game in the United States in 2024, Activision seems poised to continue with paid crossover events. However, sustained pressure from the fanbase might prompt a change in their monetization strategy.

Black Ops 6’s Mixed Steam Review

Black Ops 6 is currently rated with 10,696 Mixed Steam user reviews, with only 47% of players recommending the game. Beyond the costly skins, players are reporting severe issues, including PC crashes and rampant hacking in multiplayer modes.

Steam user LemonRain expressed their frustration, stating, "This game has had problems with hard crashing since launch, but the latest update has made it so I can’t complete a single match. Reinstalling. Safe mode. Support. Nothing works and I have given up."

For those who haven't experienced crashes, the presence of hackers who can instantly kill opponents before matches even begin is a significant deterrent. One player waited 15 minutes in a lobby only to be matched with hackers.

In protest of Activision's increased use of AI, some users are even utilizing AI chatbots like ChatGPT to generate negative reviews. Steam user Rundur wrote, "Since Activision can't be bothered hiring real people anymore, I've decided to take advantage of AI myself and ask ChatGPT to write this negative review for me. Enjoy."

Despite these issues, Black Ops 6 continues to generate significant revenue, largely driven by its costly battle passes, which are pricier compared to other shooters in the market.
