US Blocks Marvel Snap Due to TikTok Restrictions

Second Dinner, the California-based studio behind the popular game Marvel Snap, faced an unexpected setback when their publisher, ByteDance's subsidiary Nuverse, encountered a ban that extended to the game itself. As of January 18, 2025, Marvel Snap was removed from iOS and Android platforms, leaving many players unable to access the game. This sudden unavailability has led to widespread frustration, particularly among those who experienced authorization issues. However, PC gamers can still access Marvel Snap on Steam, providing some relief amidst the turmoil.

Second Dinner's developers expressed their surprise and disappointment over the incident, assuring fans that they are actively working to restore the game's availability. In an official statement released on Platform X, the team emphasized their commitment to bringing Marvel Snap back online, stating, "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."

One of the most aggravating aspects of this situation was the lack of prior warning to players. Many continued to invest in in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout. The ban not only affected Marvel Snap but also impacted other ByteDance apps, although not all were affected equally. For instance, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain accessible to players.

Amidst these challenges, Marvel Snap has continued to evolve with the recent addition of the ongoing card Moonstone. This card is a crucial addition to the game's Ongoing archetype, filling a much-needed gap in the meta. As a 4-cost, 6-power card, Moonstone's ability allows her to replicate the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards at her lane, making her a formidable presence on the board.

The pool of low-cost Ongoing cards in Marvel Snap is already significant, with cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent primarily focusing on power generation. Moonstone stands out because she can accumulate these effects without additional cost, potentially skyrocketing her power and impact in the game. This new addition promises to shake up the meta and offer players new strategic possibilities as they navigate the current challenges surrounding the game's availability.
