Clash Royale heads back to the past with new (yet old) Retro Royale mode

Author : Gabriella Mar 14,2025

Clash Royale is throwing it back to 2017 with the all-new Retro Royale Mode! Available for a limited time only, from March 12th to 26th, this exciting mode offers a chance to earn fantastic rewards. Climb the 30-step ladder and claim your Gold and Season Tokens!

Supercell's continued success stems from consistently refreshing its top games, as evidenced by the recent removal of Troop Training times in Clash of Clans. Now, Clash Royale joins the party, celebrating its anniversary by taking players on a nostalgic trip back to its launch year.

The Retro Royale mode, showcased in a recent trailer, features the original launch meta and card pool – a selection of 80 cards. From March 12th to 26th, compete in the Retro Ladder, battling for exclusive rewards as you ascend the 30 steps to earn Gold and Season Tokens.

The competition intensifies as you climb the ranks. Upon reaching the Competitive League, your starting rank will be determined by your Trophy Road progress. From there, it's all about your Retro Royale performance – climb the leaderboard and prove your timeless Clash Royale skills!

A Royal Decree of Nostalgia

It’s interesting that I recently discussed Supercell's efforts to keep their games fresh, only to see a retro mode arrive so soon after. However, there's a clear difference between feeling dated and feeling nostalgic. With the enticing rewards on offer, it's hard to imagine fans resisting the urge to jump in and experience the Retro Royale Mode.

And here's a bonus: compete in both the Retro Ladder and the Competitive League at least once, and you'll earn a special badge for each!
