The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, renowned for his portrayal of pilot John Blackthorn, will not only reprise his role but also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2, as confirmed by an official FX press release.
Furthermore, Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead and committed to Season 2 last May following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been promoted to executive producer. This comes after his involvement in producing the first season. Production for the new season is slated to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the original series was filmed.
FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" that builds on the first season's adaptation of James Clavell's novel. Regarding the narrative connection between the two seasons, the network provided insight:"In Season 1, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) battled for his life as the Council of Regents conspired against him. The arrival of a stranded European ship introduced English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), who shared crucial strategic insights that shifted the power dynamics, aiding Toranaga in winning a pivotal civil war.
"Season 2 of Shōgun is set a decade later and continues the epic, historically-inspired tale of these two men from vastly different worlds, whose destinies remain deeply intertwined."
Fans can look forward to new episodes hopefully by the end of 2026, but until then, the anticipation builds as we await further developments.
