The Blood of Dawnwalker Devs Are Striving For Witcher 3 Levels of Quality

The upcoming open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, is ambitiously targeting the high-quality standards set by The Witcher 3, but in a more compact form. Developed by ex-CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers now at Rebel Wolves, this game is generating buzz for its promise of delivering a robust gaming experience. Dive in to discover more about this anticipated title and the insights shared by its creative directors.

The Blood Of Dawnwalker Aims For AAA Quality

In an interview with Games Radar, The Blood of Dawnwalker's creative director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, expressed that despite being a smaller studio with their debut project, the team is committed to achieving a level of quality comparable to CD Projekt Red's acclaimed The Witcher 3. When questioned about the game's categorization in the industry's AA space, Tomaszkiewicz clarified, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."

Despite being a newly named studio, Rebel Wolves is filled with industry veterans, including former CDPR developers who contributed to The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, along with his brother Konrad, founded Rebel Wolves to enjoy greater creative freedom without the limitations typically encountered at established AAA studios like CDPR.

Tomaszkiewicz explained, "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He highlighted that The Blood of Dawnwalker is aiming for a main campaign lasting 30-40 hours, which, while not typical AAA game length, still packs a punch in quality. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."

The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to be a narrative-driven open-world dark fantasy RPG, taking place in the mystical realm of Vale Sangora. Players will assume the role of Coen, a young peasant who gains vampiric powers after an encounter with one of the land's most formidable vampires. Coen's journey is fueled by a mission to save his ailing sister from her illness, navigating the challenges and adversaries of this dark world along the way.

While an exact release date remains undisclosed, The Blood of Dawnwalker is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal during Summer 2025.
