The release of Trailer 2 for *Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)* has sent the long-running GTA 6 mapping project into overdrive. With the project's Discord server now boasting nearly 400 members, the excitement and workload have significantly increased. Garza, who manages the server, shared with IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The flood of new content from Trailer 2 has provided the team with a wealth of information to work with, marking just the beginning of their intensified efforts.
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord emerged in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans believe Rockstar subtly referenced at the start of Trailer 2. Until now, the project relied on those leaks and the content from December 2023's Trailer 1 to piece together the most accurate map of GTA 6. However, the latest map version, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is already outdated due to the new details revealed in Trailer 2.
Rockstar not only confirmed plot details and characters but also released 70 new screenshots and unveiled various explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's version of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (akin to Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga near the northern border.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing Trailer 2 to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, aiming to match fictional spaces with their real-world counterparts. This effort will culminate in an updated map release by DuPz0r, which fans eagerly anticipate as a detailed preview of what to expect when GTA 6 launches in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release more assets or gameplay footage before the game's release, the volunteers are prepared to refine their work further. Only upon the game's release will they be able to compare their fan-made map with the actual game to assess their accuracy.

However, the looming threat of legal action from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, hangs over the project. A recent case saw a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 forced to stop after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. Garza expressed "some mild concern" about potential action but noted that the project avoids showcasing leaked material directly. He believes the project's popularity and its role in generating interest in the game might be reasons why Take-Two has not intervened yet. Nevertheless, Garza stated that he would comply with any cease and desist order if received.
