Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile boss in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, making the fight frustrating due to its elusive movements and unique shape. Similar to Nu Udra, its black skin makes it challenging to discern its front from its back. Xu Wu's multiple arms add to the complexity of the battle, and it can sometimes vanish into walls, only to reappear on the ceiling and attempt to ambush you from above. Be especially vigilant when fighting in its nest, as this is the only area where it can perform this maneuver.

Use Ice Attacks

Xu Wu's weakness to the Ice element makes it a prime target for Ice-based attacks in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Whether you're using ranged weapons like Ice ammo or melee weapons, equipping gear that inflicts Ice damage is crucial. Consider enhancing your equipment with a Frost Jewel decoration to gain the Ice Attack skill. Carrying a Frost Pod can also be beneficial for dealing additional Ice damage.

Avoid the Grab Attack

In addition to its tentacle attacks and diving tactics, Xu Wu employs a grab attack in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. If caught, you'll be unable to use your standard weapons, but you have a brief window of about two seconds to escape. Using your slinger, particularly with Frost Pods, is the most effective way to break free from its grip.

Attack Xu Wu's Mouth

The mouth of Xu Wu is its most vulnerable point, though it's hidden beneath its body and only visible during its dive attacks. Striking a powerful blow during these moments can cause significant damage and may even break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu's fang. If targeting the mouth proves difficult, the head is another viable target with a 4-star weakness to blunt and cut damage, and a 3-star weakness to ammo damage.

Use Poison

Xu Wu has a notable 3-star weakness to Poison, making it an effective strategy to use in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Employing a bow with Poison Coating can be particularly advantageous. While other status ailments can be inflicted, Sleep is less effective against this monster, so it's best to avoid it.

Once you've reduced Xu Wu's health to 20 percent, you can attempt to capture it. Use either a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap to immobilize the beast. Baiting it with meat can help, or you can use yourself as bait to lure Xu Wu into the trap. Quickly follow up by shooting a tranquilizer to ensure it doesn't escape. You have only a few seconds to complete this step, so timing is crucial.

That's everything you need to know about hunting and capturing Xu Wu in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Given its agility, always keep an eye on your stamina bar to stay in the fight.
