During its 2019 debut, King of Crabs quickly gained a cult following thanks to its delightfully odd yet endearing concept—battle royale, but with crabs. Now, Robot Squid, the creative indie studio behind the original, is diving back into the tide pool with a bold new direction. Introducing King of Crabs – Invasion, the latest evolution in crustacean combat.
From Epic Crab Battle Royale to Strategic Crab Warfare
Robot Squid has completely reimagined the gameplay. Gone is the free-for-all tidepool scramble with 99 other players. In its place? A fast-paced real-time strategy (RTS) experience that transforms chaotic crab brawls into tactical warfare.
You still command a squad of determined crabs, but this time, it’s all about strategy. Matches take place on a linear battlefield where you deploy units like standard crab soldiers, clawed mace tanks, and even catapults. The goal is simple: outsmart and overwhelm your opponent before they dominate your side of the board. Each match brings new challenges depending on the map layout and randomized obstacles, keeping the gameplay fresh and unpredictable.

King of Crabs – Invasion Lands on Android
King of Crabs – Invasion is already available in select regions, including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Singapore. For the rest of the world, the game launches globally on Android on May 30th—just three days away. Think of it as a spin-off that builds on the charm of the original while taking the franchise in a bold new direction.
For context, the original King of Crabs was Robot Squid’s first release. Founded in 2018, this UK-based indie studio teamed up with Spilt Milk Studios to bring the game to Microsoft Windows, Android, and iOS in 2020. At its peak, the game earned comparisons to Fortnite with claws, thanks to its quirky mix of humor, action, and survival mechanics.
