Marvel Rivals to Reduce Memory Usage and Improve Stability With Experimental Feature

NetEase is rolling out a groundbreaking experimental feature aimed at enhancing Marvel Rivals’ stability and reducing its memory footprint. On April 30, via a Twitter (X) post, Marvel Rivals unveiled the Switch Shader Compilation Mode, poised to elevate the gameplay experience, particularly for players with lower RAM or those concerned about FPS drops.

In addition to the announcement, Marvel Rivals published a detailed blog on their official website, outlining the expected benefits of this new feature. The blog acknowledges player concerns about performance stutters and crashes caused by high memory consumption during gameplay.

As per the blog, “To tackle memory overload, we're introducing an experimental feature in Season 2: the Switch Shader Compilation Mode. Players can activate this feature via the PC launcher with the Season 2 update.” This feature is particularly recommended for those with 16GB of RAM or less.

When enabled, the game sees significant improvements:

  • The shader compilation process will only run upon first entering the game after a new version or graphics driver update.
  • Game memory usage is significantly reduced, minimizing severe FPS drops, frozen visuals, and crashes due to memory shortages.

However, the developers have noted some potential issues with this feature. For example, at the start of each match, some materials might render abnormally for a few frames before normalizing. There might also be some initial stutters, but these should resolve quickly, ensuring smooth gameplay for the rest of the match.
