In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, you'll come across a variety of fierce and memorable beasts, but Rompopolo stands out as one of the most unique. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you unlock, defeat, and capture this intriguing Brute Wyvern.

Rompopolo, a Brute Wyvern-type monster, makes its first appearance in Chapter 2 during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. You'll encounter it while journeying through the Oilwell Basin region on your way to Azuz City. Defeating Rompopolo is necessary to progress through the mission.

Once you've defeated Rompopolo at least once, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can then engage it multiple times either by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by starting the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest from your Tent.

How to Beat and Capture Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

To prepare effectively for the fight, equip your hunter with water-element weapons, which you can obtain from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, gear up with fire-resistant equipment. You can farm this from Uth Duna (initially the belt and greaves) or from Ajarakan later in the chapter.

Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like the Fire Charm I or a general defense charm such as Defense Charm I. Before heading into battle, don't forget to grill a meal to boost your health and stamina.

Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo's unique wyvern nature gives it a distinctive set of attacks. Its body features saggy skin that inflates with gas, which it uses for various gas-related attacks that can cause explosions. It can also inflict poison, so carry Antidotes and utilize your Palico's ability to cleanse ailments.

Key attacks to watch for include:

  • Arm Swipe: Rompopolo swipes forward twice with its clawed arms. This attack is easily dodged due to its limited range.
  • Lunge With Arm Swipe: It charges forward while raising both arms to perform an arcing swipe.
  • Tail Swing: Rompopolo swings its tail toward its target.
  • Poison Stream or Swipe: It sprays a stream of poison gas or charges forward while swinging its head and spraying poison.
  • Oil Explosion: From a distance, Rompopolo uses its tail stinger to inject gas into oil pools, causing explosions. Be sure to dodge these.
  • Charged Oil Explosion: Later in the fight, it curls its tail and pumps more gas into the oil, causing a larger explosion. Dodge this to avoid significant damage.

Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?

As in previous *Monster Hunter* games, you can either kill or capture Rompopolo at the end of the battle. To capture, weaken the monster until your Palico notes it looks "tired" (nearly dead). Then, use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps to ensnare it, followed by at least one Tranq Bomb to knock it out, completing the capture.

Both methods yield viable rewards, though the item drops differ slightly. Some items are exclusive to capturing, while others are obtained through killing.
