What Is Max Level/Rank in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Level Cap Explained

Author : Olivia Apr 01,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise, offering a comprehensive progression system that enhances the game's vast scale. Here’s a detailed look at the max levels and how the level cap functions within *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, Ubisoft has introduced a revamped progression system. While the game's skill unlocking is primarily tied to the new Knowledge Ranks (more details on this below), traditional XP-based progression remains a key element. Advancing your XP level in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* grants access to higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, alongside enhancements to Naoe and Yasuke’s base stats.

To fully explore all the available Japanese provinces, players need to reach Level 35. However, the XP grind extends well beyond this point. Initially, Ubisoft hinted at a Level Cap of 40 in their pre-launch progression deep dive, but players can actually push their levels all the way to 60. There's a good chance this cap might increase with the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion for *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Knowledge Rank system marks a significant evolution in the franchise's approach to progression. This system operates independently from the game's XP leveling. Players earn Knowledge Points through engaging in various open-world activities, focusing on mindfulness and training. As you advance through the Knowledge Ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though these skills must be unlocked using Mastery Points.

To access all possible skills, players must achieve Knowledge Rank 6. Yet, this isn't the end of the journey; upon reaching this rank, Naoe and Yasuke unlock a new Knowledge tree. This additional tree offers several passive skills, allowing players to further refine their build according to their preferred playstyle.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery represents the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the game's equivalent to skill points. These points are essential for unlocking skills within the various Mastery trees, with some skills requiring more Mastery than others.

With six Mastery trees for each protagonist, there's a vast array of skills to unlock. Fortunately, players can earn Mastery Points through a diverse set of activities, ensuring ample opportunities to gather the points needed. While there is a theoretical limit to Mastery Points, reaching it would require extensive gameplay. The Claws of Awaji expansion, set to launch later in 2025, is expected to introduce new methods for earning Mastery.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each province in Japan has an associated level. At the game's start, the highest level requirement is for Kii, set at Level 35. As players progress and increase their XP level, the levels of some regions will scale to match, keeping the game challenging and engaging.

However, there's a late-game limit to how high enemy and province difficulty levels will scale. From Level 42 onwards, the recommended level for each province stays two levels below your current XP level. This system ensures that the game remains challenging while rewarding players who invest significant time into their journey.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
