MultiVersus Players Praise Major Season 5 Gameplay Changes Ahead of Server Shutdown — and Now #SaveMultiVersus Is Trending Online

Author : Savannah Mar 04,2025

MultiVersus' impending closure in May, following the end of Season 5, hasn't stopped players from celebrating a significant gameplay overhaul. A recent update dramatically increased combat speed, a change long-requested by the community, sparking a #SaveMultiVersus movement on social media.

The game's final season, launched February 4th, introduced Aquaman and Lola Bunny as the last playable characters. However, the focus quickly shifted to the substantial gameplay changes. The faster pace, a departure from the previously criticized "floaty" gameplay of the 2022 beta and even the 2024 relaunch, is a fundamental shift that has revitalized the game for many.

A Season 5 Combat Changes Preview video highlighted the speed increase, attributed in the patch notes to a reduction in hitpause across most attacks. Numerous characters, including Morty, LeBron, Iron Giant, and Bugs Bunny, now feel significantly faster due to adjustments allowing faster falls during aerial attacks. Character balance adjustments, such as Garnet's altered ringout potential, further refine the gameplay.

This dramatic shift has left players with a bittersweet feeling. The game, finally refined to meet long-held expectations, is set to shut down on May 30th. This will end seasonal content and online play, leaving only offline modes.

The irony hasn't been lost on the community. Comments across social media platforms express both shock and disappointment. One Reddit user called it "the most interesting bad game in existence," highlighting its troubled past and unexpected final flourish. Professional player Mew2King questioned why the speed increase wasn't implemented sooner. Another Reddit user lamented the missed opportunity, comparing it to the longevity of Apex Legends despite its monetization flaws, suggesting that a strong initial foundation could have made all the difference.

MultiVersus Community Reaction

Despite the outpouring of support and the #SaveMultiVersus campaign, Player First and Warner Bros. remain committed to the shutdown. Real-money transactions were disabled on January 31st, and the Season 5 premium battle pass is now free. MultiVersus director Tony Huynh shared closing thoughts, addressing player concerns.

The game's final sunset is scheduled for May 30th at 9 am PT. While the community mourns the loss, they're also celebrating this unexpected final act, a testament to the game's potential and the passionate community it fostered. The memes and shared expressions of disappointment and joy perfectly capture this bittersweet farewell.
