"Power Rangers Disney+ Series to Reimagine Franchise for New Fans"

Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is set to make a triumphant return to screens with a new live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the masterminds behind the acclaimed Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are currently in discussions to write, showrun, and produce this highly anticipated revival for Disney+ and 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers franchise, is aiming to reinvent the beloved series for a new generation while ensuring that it remains a favorite among existing fans. This strategic move comes after Hasbro's acquisition of the Power Rangers and other brands from Saban Properties in a deal valued at $522 million back in 2018. At the time, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed immense confidence in the franchise, stating, "We see significant opportunity for Power Rangers across our entire Brand Blueprint, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming and entertainment, as well as geographically throughout our global retail footprint."

The original '90s TV show, The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, captivated a generation of children with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs that could combine into an even larger mech. This new series aims to recapture that magic while pushing the boundaries to attract a broader audience.

The acquisition followed the unsuccessful 2017 movie reboot, which attempted to give Power Rangers a darker, grittier edge with plans for multiple sequels. However, due to poor box office returns, those plans were abandoned, leading to Saban selling the rights to Hasbro shortly thereafter.

In addition to the Power Rangers series, Hasbro is also venturing into other ambitious projects. These include a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms, currently in development at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series, also in the works at Netflix, and plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe. These initiatives highlight Hasbro's commitment to expanding its beloved franchises across multiple platforms and media.
