Fans of the iconic action hero Rambo are in for a thrilling treat as a new prequel project, titled "John Rambo," is currently in development. Directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on "Sisu" and "Big Game," this film is being launched by Millennium Media at the Cannes market. The Cannes market, held concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, serves as a platform for unveiling upcoming projects to potential investors and distribution partners. Millennium Media, a company renowned for producing the Expendables and Has Fallen series, also contributed to the 2008 "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood."
While details about the plot of "John Rambo" remain scarce, it is confirmed that the story will unfold during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the 1982 classic, "First Blood." As of now, no casting decisions have been finalized, and although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.
The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the writers behind "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand in October. Helander’s previous work on the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," which reimagined the John Wick concept with an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during the Lapland War, showcases his ability to handle high-octane action sequences, making him an exciting choice for this prequel.
