Relic Entertainment, the masterminds behind Company of Heroes, are branching out into a new, smaller-scale turn-based strategy game titled Earth vs. Mars. Slated for release this Summer on PC through Steam, this game pits players in the role of Earth's defenders against a Martian invasion. The gameplay mechanics are inspired by the beloved Nintendo DS classic, Advance Wars, but with a unique twist: players can create "bizarre and powerful creature-human hybrids" using the innovative Splice-O-Tron. Imagine commanding a Squirrel-Cow, Human-Rhino, or Cheetah-Fly in your fight against the invaders!
According to Relic, the narrative unfolds after decades of covert Martian visits to Earth, where they abducted humans and animals to extract their atomic essence. Now, the Martians have launched a full-scale invasion, and it's up to a determined group of commanders to lead Earth's resistance. Players will strategize and command Earth's military forces against the high-tech Martian arsenal, including saucers, grav-tanks, and elite alien warriors, in a gripping battle for survival.

“We are excited to bring a Relic Twist to the Advance Wars style of gameplay, infusing some Relic DNA, while harkening back to some of our earlier titles,” said Relic CEO Justin Dowdeswell. He further explained that alongside their traditional RTS titles, Relic is now exploring smaller Indie-style games to delve into new sub-genres, fuel creativity, and accelerate game releases.
