Smite 2 is set to launch its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025, ushering in a new era for the third-person action MOBA. Having entered its Alpha stage in 2024, Smite 2 promises an array of new modes, Gods, Aspects, and more, aiming to introduce a new generation of players to the thrilling world of Smite.
As a sequel to the 2014 free-to-play MOBA, Smite, Smite 2 was unveiled nearly a decade after the original's debut. It offers a completely revamped experience built on Unreal Engine 5. Like its predecessor, Smite 2 allows players to embody various legendary figures and Gods drawn from real-world pantheons, spanning from Greek mythology to traditional Japanese deities. From the Alpha launch in September, players had access to 14 Gods, with the number expected to grow to nearly 50 by the end of January 2025. Now, with more details emerging, fans have much to look forward to beyond new characters.
Smite 2's developers have confirmed that the game will commence its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025, providing players an opportunity to experience the significant differences from the original game. Alongside this announcement, Aladdin, the inaugural God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, will be introduced on the same day, enhancing Smite 2's already robust lineup. Aladdin serves as a Magical Assassin and Jungler, capable of running on walls and trapping enemies in his lamp. Fans can also anticipate the return of beloved characters from the original Smite, such as Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, albeit with updated skillsets.
When Does the Smite 2 F2P Open Beta Begin?
- January 14, 2025
A new 3v3 game mode, Joust, has been announced for the F2P open beta. Set in an Arthurian-themed area, players can navigate the map using Teleporters, with Stealth Grass enabling surprise attacks. The same map will also host Duel, a new 1v1 mode. Additionally, the innovative Aspects feature will introduce a fresh gameplay dynamic, allowing players to exchange a specific aspect of their God's build for a powerful boon. For instance, with Aspects enabled, Athena can no longer teleport to an ally to shield them but can instead teleport to enemies to weaken them. During the open beta, 20 out of Smite 2's 45 dynamic Gods will feature Aspects, with more to be added in the future.
Smite 2 will also introduce several quality-of-life enhancements, including Role Guides, helpful messages for new players, PC text chat, improved item store, death recaps, and more. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale is slated for January 17-19 at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas, spotlighting this exciting new MOBA experience. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
