Pesten With Cards is a beloved Dutch card game, known in English as "Bullying With Cards." This game shares similarities with other international card games like Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, Shedding, Puque, Чешский Дурак, Фараон, Крокодил, Tschau Sepp, and Uno. The primary objective is to be the first player to discard all your cards. A crucial rule is that the winner must announce "Last Card" before playing their final card. Failure to do so results in a penalty of drawing two additional cards.
The game can be played using multiple decks of cards, including jokers. Each player starts with seven cards, and the remaining cards form the draw pile or stock. The top card of the stock is turned face up to start the discard pile. Players take turns in a clockwise direction, aiming to match the top card of the discard pile either by suit or rank. However, Jokers and Jacks are wild and can be played on any card. If a player cannot play a card, they must draw one from the stock. If the drawn card is playable, the player can choose to play it immediately or keep it for a later turn.
Last Card
When a player has only one card left, they must click the "Last Card" button above their cards to alert others. Forgetting to do so before playing the last card incurs a penalty of drawing two cards, and the last card cannot be played. Incorrectly declaring "Last Card" also results in a two-card penalty. Players can press the "Last Card" button at any time, even when it's not their turn, to ensure they don't forget.
Winning the round requires playing the last card, which must not be one of the special cards listed below.
Special Cards
Special cards in Pesten With Cards trigger specific actions based on their number or type. These actions can vary widely across different Dutch regions, so players should adjust the game settings to match their preferred rules. Here are the standard actions:
Joker: The next player must draw five cards. If they have a Joker, they can play it, forcing the following player to draw ten cards. Each subsequent Joker adds five more cards to be drawn. Players drawing cards cannot play any of them during that turn.
Two: The next player must draw two cards. If they have a Two, they can play it, making the next player draw four cards. Each additional Two adds two more cards to be drawn. If enabled in the settings, a Joker can be played on a Two, adding five cards to the draw. A Two cannot be played on a Joker. Players drawing cards cannot play them during that turn.
Seven: The player must play another card immediately. If playing a Seven allows the player to play their last card, they must remember to say "Last Card." If unable to play another card, the player must draw one from the stock.
Eight: The next player skips their turn, allowing the player after them to play. In a two-player game, this means the player can play another card. This is similar to the Seven card.
Ten: All players must pass one card from their hand to the player on their left. Players should click on the card they wish to pass.
