ARTIST RETURNS, "MAGIC" UNFOLDS

Author : Skylar Feb 12,2025

Mitsuhiro Arita, a renowned artist celebrated for his work on the original Pokémon Trading Card Game, including the coveted Charizard card, is now lending his artistic talents to Magic: The Gathering. A new Secret Lair drop features four cards showcasing Arita's distinctive style, and we have an exclusive preview.

View the gallery below to see all four cards in Arita's Secret Lair:

This isn't Arita's first foray into Magic; he previously illustrated a borderless Lumra, Bellow of the Woods for the 2024 Bloomburrow set. This Secret Lair, however, represents a significant expansion of his contribution, featuring four cards at once.

The selection includes cards playable across various formats. The iconic Lightning Bolt is a staple in nearly every legal format, while Murktide Regent has proven a powerful force in Modern and Legacy since its Modern Horizons 2 debut in 2021. Light-Paws is a popular Commander choice, and Shorikai enjoys prominence in Vintage Cubes and ranks among the top 20 most popular Commanders according to EDHRec.

Wizards of the Coast's store page describes the drop as follows: "With almost three decades of experience creating beloved art for trading card games, Mitsuhiro Arita's work is globally recognized. His debut Magic: The Gathering collaboration, a borderless Lumra, Bellow of the Woods from 2024's Bloomburrow, quickly became a fan favorite. This Secret Lair Drop sees the legendary artist return, showcasing his iconic creature designs across four exceptional cards."

PlayThis Secret Lair will be available on the Secret Lair website, priced at $29.99 (non-foil) and $39.99 (foil), starting Monday, February 10th at 9 am PT. Supplies are limited, and given the shift away from the previous print-to-order system, these are expected to sell out quickly. Don't delay if you want to secure your set.
