RAID: Shadow Legends is well known for its reliance on an RNG (random number generator) system for summoning champions. Opening shards can be thrilling, but it’s often disappointing—especially when dozens or even hundreds of attempts yield no Legendary champions. To ease this frustration, Plarium introduced what the community calls the “Pity System.” So how does it actually work? Is it effective? And crucially, does it genuinely benefit free-to-play (F2P) and low-spending players? This guide explains everything you need to know.
What Is the Pity System in RAID: Shadow Legends?
The Pity System is an unstated feature that boosts your chances of summoning higher-rarity champions—Epic and Legendary—as your unlucky streak continues. In short: when luck isn’t on your side for an extended period, the game gradually improves your odds until you finally secure a strong champion. This mechanic aims to prevent disastrous dry spells where players open large numbers of shards with no valuable results. Although Plarium doesn't officially announce this system in the game, it has been verified by dataminers, developers, and numerous player accounts.

Sacred Shards
Base Legendary chance: 6% per shard.
Mercy activates: After 12 consecutive Sacred Shards without a Legendary.
Starting from the 13th Sacred Shard without a Legendary, each subsequent shard raises your Legendary odds by 2%.
Here’s how it progresses:

Is the Pity System Useful for Most Players?
The answer isn’t simply “yes” or “no.” Does it help regularly? Generally not, since many players report that the pity threshold is so high they often summon a Legendary before reaching it. So a better question is: how could it be improved? Having a pity system is certainly valuable, especially in a gacha game like RAID: Shadow Legends.
For F2P players, it’s especially discouraging to put in hours of grinding and farming shards without ever obtaining a Legendary. The system is clearly necessary, but some adjustments could make it more effective. For example, lowering the pity counter from 200 to 150 or 170 would let players conserve more shards and give them a tangible sense of relief when the mercy kicks in.
You can also enhance your RAID: Shadow Legends experience by playing on a larger PC or laptop screen using BlueStacks, which supports keyboard and mouse controls for smoother and more immersive gameplay.
