Eggers to Helm Labyrinth Sequel

Author : Leo Mar 28,2025

Director Robert Eggers is set to enchant audiences once again, this time by crafting a sequel to the cherished 1986 dark fantasy film, *Labyrinth*. Following the success of his gothic horror masterpiece, *Nosferatu*, Eggers will take the helm in both writing and directing the new installment of Jim Henson's beloved classic, originally starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Eggers will co-write the screenplay with his frequent collaborator Sjón, known for their work together on *The Northman*. This project marks a fresh start for the sequel, previously considered with director Scott Derrickson attached, but stalled since 2023. Now, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures are moving forward with Eggers at the creative forefront.

*Labyrinth*, released in 1986, captivated viewers with its tale of the Goblin King Jareth, portrayed by David Bowie, who kidnaps the baby brother of Sarah, played by Jennifer Connelly. Sarah embarks on a thrilling journey through a dark fantasy world, aided by an unforgettable ensemble of Henson's imaginative puppets, to rescue her sibling.

Beyond the *Labyrinth* sequel, Eggers has another thrilling project in the works. He is set to direct a werewolf film titled *Werwulf*, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th century England, the film will feature dialogue in the Old English of the era, promising an immersive historical experience. While details are scarce, one can anticipate the transformation of a character into a fearsome wolf creature.

Eggers' most recent release, *Nosferatu*, hit theaters last Christmas. This film is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent classic, set in 19th century Germany. The story follows a young real estate agent dispatched to Transylvania to sell a castle to its enigmatic count, only to be ensnared in a web of vampiric horrors alongside his wife Ellen. *Nosferatu* has garnered significant acclaim, earning four Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling.
