Nintendo Switch 2 Reviews Delayed Until June 5

Author : Ryan Jun 17,2025

The gaming world is holding its breath, collectively hovering over the proverbial A button as the launch date of the Nintendo Switch 2 draws closer. With June 5 marked as the big day, excitement is at an all-time high. However, Nintendo has delivered a surprising update that changes how media outlets, including IGN, typically approach console launch coverage.

In a departure from previous console launches, Nintendo will not be providing pre-launch review access to the Switch 2 hardware or its launch titles. This means no early hands-on time with flagship games like *Mario Kart World*, *Welcome Tour*, or the enhanced versions of *Zelda* and other major ports. For us, this eliminates the opportunity to deliver our usual in-depth, launch-day reviews packed with firsthand insights—something we’ve always taken pride in offering our readers.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had to adjust our strategy under unusual circumstances, so rest assured—we’re already working on Plan B. While it may take more effort than usual, our goal remains the same: to provide you with accurate, insightful, and timely content without sacrificing quality. The moment our preordered Nintendo Switch 2 units arrive, we’ll dive straight into hands-on testing and evaluation.

Our plan includes publishing a detailed review-in-progress of *Mario Kart World* led by in-house racing expert and NVC host Logan Plant. We’ll also deliver deep-dive impressions of the enhanced Switch 2 editions of *Breath of the Wild*, *Tears of the Kingdom*, and third-party heavyweights such as *Cyberpunk 2077* and *Hogwarts Legacy*. Our team will assess performance, visual upgrades, and how these versions stack up against their predecessors on other platforms.

Simultaneously, we’ll conduct comprehensive evaluations of all new hardware components. Tom Marks, our veteran reviewer behind the original Switch and Switch Lite, will analyze the new console’s design and functionality. Michael Higham, our controller specialist, will put the Joy-Cons and the new Pro Controller 2 through their paces. Every peripheral—including the integrated camera and accessories—will be tested and reviewed thoroughly.

We aim to publish most—if not all—of these reviews within a week of launch. As global players begin testing the system, we’ll monitor community feedback and address emerging questions, ensuring our coverage evolves alongside real-world experiences. There's a lot on our plate, but we're fully committed to delivering the information you need, when you need it most.
