"Age of Empires Mobile Introduces Mercenary Troops System"

Author : Andrew May 26,2025

Ever dreamed of witnessing Joan of Arc commanding Roman Centurions in battle or Hannibal Barca deploying Japanese Samurai to conquer Rome? With the latest update to Age of Empires Mobile, you can turn these dreams into reality through the new Mercenary Troops system.

Starting at level 26, players will unlock the Mercenary Camp, a new structure where you can hire and recruit units typically exclusive to other factions. This system not only allows you to diversify your army but also offers unlockable technology to further enhance these mercenary units. Plus, you can secure your first mercenaries for free through a special event that's currently live.

The update introduces a variety of powerful Mercenary units including Byzantine Cataphracts, Swiss Pikemen, Persian Immortals, Indian Battle Elephants, Roman Centurions, Egyptian Chariot Archers, Japanese Samurai, and Korean Archers. Each of these units comes with its own set of technologies to boost their combat effectiveness on the battlefield.

Age of Empires Mobile Mercenary Troops

The addition of the Mercenary Troops system evokes memories of Total War games, such as Rome: Total War and Medieval II, where players could overwhelm opponents with hired swords. However, this new feature might be divisive among the player base, with some seeing it as a potential disruption to game balance.

Only time will tell how well the Mercenary Troops system integrates into Age of Empires Mobile. It remains to be seen whether future updates might introduce even more unique units like the historical Landsknechts. For now, we'll have to watch and see how the community responds.
