The success story at Games Workshop, the creators of Warhammer 40,000, continues to unfold as the company announced a generous £20 million (approximately $27 million) bonus for its staff. Based in Nottingham, UK, Games Workshop is renowned for its Warhammer tabletop games and the rich universes they inhabit. For the fiscal year ending June 1, 2025, the company reported a core revenue of £560 million, marking an increase from the previous year's £494.7 million. Additionally, licensing revenue soared to £50 million from £31 million. Core profit reached £210 million, up from £174.8 million, and licensing profit climbed to £45 million from £27 million, culminating in a pre-tax profit of £255 million, up from £203 million.
In light of these impressive financial results and "in recognition of our staff's contribution to these results," Games Workshop is distributing £20 million to its employees, an increase from the £18 million bonus of the previous year. This bonus will be equally shared among the staff, with each of the estimated 1,500 employees receiving around £13,333 (approximately $18,000).
While Games Workshop's primary revenue stream remains the sale of miniatures for tabletop wargames like Warhammer 40,000, the company is increasingly leveraging its intellectual property (IP). This is evident from the substantial revenue generated by successful video games, such as last year's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and animations, including Amazon's Warhammer 40,000 Secret Level episode. The collaboration with Amazon has also led to the establishment of Henry Cavill's Warhammer 40,000 Cinematic Universe, which will produce films and television series. Furthermore, Space Marine 3 is currently in development.Looking ahead, Games Workshop acknowledges that the record licensing revenue achieved during this period is unlikely to be replicated in the 2025/26 fiscal year. However, the company remains committed to its licensing strategy. The Warhammer 40,000 and broader Warhammer franchises are experiencing unprecedented popularity, and these financial results suggest sustained growth.
Recently, Games Workshop hosted its annual Warhammer Skulls showcase, where numerous exciting announcements and trailers were unveiled. Key highlights included the Definitive Edition of Dawn of War and the introduction of Siege mode for Space Marine 2.
