Genshin Impact 5.5: Varesa or Xiao - Who to Pull?

Author : Audrey Apr 17,2025

In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, players will be introduced to two new characters: Varesa, a 5-Star Electro Catalyst, and Iansan, a 4-Star Electro Polearm. The Version 5.5 livestream showcased both characters, with Varesa's kit particularly catching the community's attention due to its striking similarity to Xiao's playstyle.

How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?

Varesa's kit is unique and intriguing, especially her Charged Attacks. She launches herself into the air, enabling a Plunging Attack while generating Nightsoul Points. As a character from Natlan, her Charged Attack is crucial for accumulating these points. Her Elemental Skill, Riding the Night-Rainbow, transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, rushing forward and dealing Electro DMG. Following this, her Normal Attacks convert into Plunging Attacks without consuming stamina, a feature reminiscent of Xiao's playstyle when he uses his Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, to execute consecutive Plunging Attacks.

After accumulating enough Plunging Attacks, Varesa can enter a masked luchador state called Fiery Passion when her Nightsoul Meter is full, enhancing her attacks and Burst. This makes Plunging Attacks an essential part of her gameplay, much like Xiao's.

Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?

The key difference between Xiao and Varesa's Plunging Attack playstyles lies in their mechanics. Xiao needs his Elemental Burst to perform consecutive Plunging Attacks, whereas Varesa can initiate them with her Charged Attacks alone, allowing her to enter a more powerful state and continue these attacks.

If you enjoy Xiao's playstyle and prefer this type of gameplay, Varesa could be a worthwhile investment. Her independence from her Elemental Burst for Plunging Attacks is her significant advantage. Additionally, if you have other Natlan characters, Varesa will synergize well with them, leveraging the Nightsoul's Blessing.

However, consider that Xianyun will also be featured in *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I) alongside Varesa. Xianyun is an excellent support for Plunging Attack users like Xiao. If you already have Xiao and lack Xianyun, pulling for her might be a better choice. Otherwise, if you're looking for a fresh yet familiar experience, Varesa is a compelling option.
