Next year marks the 60th anniversary of Ultra, and Tsuburaya Productions has unveiled a major celebration dubbed the Ultra Series 60th Anniversary Project. This initiative aims to further extend the legacy of Ultraman worldwide. A key part of the project is a new mobile game titled Ultraman Puzzle Shuwatch.
What Genre Will the Mobile Game Ultraman Puzzle Shuwatch Belong To?
Ultraman Puzzle Shuwatch is a match-3 puzzle game designed for mobile. It is scheduled for a global launch on Android and iOS in 2025, though it will not be released in mainland China or European Union member states.
The game's story takes place on the distant planet Milanos. Players will meet more than 60 characters spanning the entire Ultra Series, from classic Ultra Heroes to famous kaiju, representing every era from Showa to Reiwa.
This includes legendary figures such as Ultraman, Ultraman Tiga Multi Type, Ultra Seven, Alien Baltan, Gomorrah, and Zetton. The game is a collaborative development between MetaField and StudioZ, both subsidiaries of the Tsuburaya Group.
Celebrating Six Decades of Ultra
Ultraman first premiered on television in July 1966 within the series Ultra Q, captivating viewers with its messages of courage, hope, and compassion. The Ultra Series 60th Anniversary Project is planned to unfold over approximately two and a half years. Alongside the new game, plans include a new television series, live stage shows, digital content, and extensive merchandise.
The choice of a match-3 puzzle genre for this anniversary game is an interesting one. The question remains whether this format can capture the epic scale of Ultraman's action-packed adventures. Only time will tell. An official release date has yet to be announced, but fans can visit the official website for further details and updates.
