"Hollow Knight: Silksong Playable at Australian Museum in September 2025"

Author : Finn May 14,2025

IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong—the highly anticipated game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been eagerly awaited by gamers worldwide and has consistently topped the Steam wishlist chart. While the exact release date remains under wraps, with only a broad 2025 window announced, this museum event offers a tangible glimpse into the game's future.

Silksong will be a highlight of the Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI, which will also feature in-depth displays exploring the game's design and artistic direction. This exhibition promises to give visitors a comprehensive look at the intricate details behind Silksong, from the hundreds of sprites animating Hornet's movements and attacks to the logic driving the game's challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm: "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing one of several design elements that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

With Silksong set to be playable at the museum from September 18, fans are speculating that the game might launch before this date, possibly in August. The excitement around Silksong has been building, especially after its brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where it confirmed the 2025 release window with a fleeting glimpse of new gameplay.

Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of numerous teases over the years. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April. As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to grow for this much-awaited sequel.
