Experience a virtual journey across Japan with the latest Ticket to Ride expansion. Marmalade Game Studio and Asmodee Entertainment have released the Japan Expansion for the digital adaptation of the classic board game.
Help Build the Train Network
For the first time, the Japan map from the physical edition arrives on digital platforms—but with a twist. Instead of building your own private train routes, you'll contribute to a shared national Bullet Train network accessible to all players.
This introduces a cooperative dynamic—sort of. While you might be tempted to let others handle the heavy lifting while you score points, beware: the game integrates a karma system.
Avoid your Bullet Train responsibilities, and you'll lose 20 points when the final tally is calculated. So you’ll need to pitch in—even if you plan to double-cross your friends later on.
Ticket to Ride also introduces two new characters with the Japan Expansion. You’ll meet Nakanishi Kimiko, a travel blogger immersing herself in festival culture with her dog.
Then there’s Moriyama Isamu, a gyōji—a sumo referee. His inclusion brings a touch of Japanese tradition, enriching the game's atmosphere beyond railways and maps.
Ticket to Ride Upgrades Your Trains with the Japan Expansion
Your train collection is getting a modest refresh. The expansion introduces two locomotives and two carriages. First, the Ichi Eki Saki train comes with the Tsuki Sleeper carriage—ideal for laid-back journeys.
Next is the Isogaba Maware train, paired with the Hayai carriage, designed for speed and efficiency.
With spring scenery in full bloom, the Japan map radiates seasonal charm. The Japan Expansion is available now, ready to refresh your Ticket to Ride sessions. Download the game via the Google Play Store.
