During a Gamescom interview, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon explained how Mortal Kombat 1 will distinguish its versions of Omni-Man and Homelander, detailing NetherRealm's approach to making them feel like two distinct characters.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently

Speaking with IGN at Gamescom, Ed Boon responded to fan worries that Homelander and Omni-Man might share similar fighting styles. He described the development team's strategy to design the characters' abilities separately, ensuring players experience two completely different combatants.
Boon noted that the team has creative freedom to explore different ideas for each character, but they actively aim to avoid overlapping Superman-like powers. "Naturally, we have a lot of flexibility with these characters, but we don't plan for both Homelander and Omni-Man to have abilities like heat vision or similar traits."

Regarding Homelander and Omni-Man, Boon added that the team drew inspiration from key moments in their respective series to craft their Fatalities. "They will absolutely have unique gameplay styles. Their core move sets will clearly set them apart. We are very conscious of the initial perception some fans had, thinking, 'Oh, they're just going to be carbon copies of each other.'"
