Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower Than Global Version

Author : Aria May 13,2025

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with varying prices across different regions, reflecting a strategic pricing model by Nintendo. In Japan, the console will be available in a unique Japanese-language system version priced at approximately $330, while the global Multi-Language System version will be priced at $449.99. This significant price difference, over $100, is largely due to the weakened yen, which impacts the cost for tourists buying electronics in Japan.

Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions

The Nintendo Switch 2 introduces two distinct versions to cater to different markets. The Japanese-language system, exclusive to Japan, supports only the Japanese language and is linked solely to Nintendo Accounts registered in Japan. This version will be available only through the Nintendo eShop in Japan, limiting software availability to titles released in the Japanese region. On the other hand, the Multi-Language System version, priced at $449.99, will be available worldwide and support multiple languages, making it the ideal choice for gamers outside of Japan or those who prefer a multilingual experience. Nintendo has scheduled to release more details about the Multi-Language System version on April 4.

The acquisition of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be facilitated through a lottery system on the My Nintendo Store, with additional reservation or lottery entries available through retailers and online shops starting April 24. To participate in the My Nintendo Store lottery, prospective buyers must meet specific criteria by February 28, 2025: they must have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software (excluding demos and free software) and have a cumulative subscription period of at least one year to Nintendo Switch Online, while still being an active subscriber at the time of application. Further details on the application process will be announced on the My Nintendo Store on April 4.
