Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accompanying accessories. While the console itself maintains its previous pricing structure, the costs of the accessories have seen a notable increase, prompting potential early adopters to reconsider their pre-order decisions.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced at $449.99 for the base model, with a bundled version including Mario Kart World available for $499.99. The kart racing game, Mario Kart World, is priced at $79.99 as a standalone purchase, while Donkey Kong Bananza comes in at $69.99.
However, it's the accessories that have caught the attention of fans due to their price hikes. Here's a detailed breakdown:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
Nintendo's announcement on its website explained that these "price adjustments" for the Switch 2 accessories were necessary due to "changes in market conditions." Most high-end items, such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera, have seen a $5 increase. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Dock Set has jumped by $10, now priced at $119.99, up from its earlier $109.99.
The community has quickly responded to these price changes, particularly the cost of an additional Joy-Con 2 Pair, which is now just $5 shy of $100. This has left many prospective buyers puzzled and hesitant about the expense.
Despite the uproar over pricing, there's a silver lining for existing Switch owners. Nintendo confirmed on its support site that many accessories from the original Nintendo Switch will remain compatible with the Switch 2. This includes the original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller, which can be wirelessly paired with the new console, although the original Joy-Cons cannot be directly attached. Additionally, retro controllers like those for the Super Nintendo and N64 will continue to be supported for compatible games.

Social media platforms are buzzing with discussions about the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories and the potential for using third-party controllers. While these alternatives may lack some features, such as the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they could offer a cost-effective solution for some Switch 2 buyers.
Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments for any of its products are possible, depending on market conditions. This news, coupled with the current pricing, might be a relief for those who already own a Pro controller and can use it with the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 are set to begin on April 24, 2025.
