PlayStation Portal Cloud Streaming Beta Updated with Gameplay Capture

Author : Aaliyah May 15,2025

Sony has announced an exciting update for PlayStation Portal users participating in its Cloud Streaming Beta, set to enhance the remote play system's cloud capabilities starting today. This update brings several user experience and functionality improvements to the forefront.

One of the key features added is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or by which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus, making it easier to navigate and choose what to play next.

Another significant enhancement is the introduction of gameplay capture during Cloud Streaming sessions. Users can now utilize the familiar create menu to take screenshots or record video clips, with support for video clips up to 1920x1080 resolution and lasting up to three minutes, as mentioned in the PlayStation blog.

The update also introduces a pause feature for gameplay. Streaming will pause when you access the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode using the power button, or if a system error message appears. However, note that if the Portal remains in rest mode for over 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. This pause feature does not apply to online multiplayer games.

Additional updates include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for inactivity, and tools for user feedback. Sony has expressed its commitment to continually refining and expanding the features of the Cloud Streaming Beta based on user input.

Currently, the Cloud Streaming Beta is accessible to PlayStation Plus Premium members, allowing them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog directly on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into more of a standalone cloud streaming device, and it seems Sony is dedicated to further developing this aspect of the Portal's functionality.

As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the gaming ecosystem, it will be fascinating to watch how Sony's services evolve in tandem with the PlayStation Portal. The ability to capture numerous screenshots during streaming sessions adds a delightful touch to the overall experience.
