The Pokémon Company Tackles TCG Shortages, Scalpers Post-Destined Rivals Launch

Author : Caleb May 06,2025

The Pokémon Company has taken a significant step to address the ongoing challenges fans face in securing the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) sets. In a recent announcement, the company confirmed that reprints of highly sought-after sets are on the horizon, and they are diligently working to ensure these products reach their fans.

The launch of the new set, "Destined Rivals," was marred by shortages, pre-order issues, and the impact of scalpers. This set, along with others like "Prismatic Evolutions" and the "Blooming Waters" box, have been extremely popular, making them hard to come by. Recognizing the frustration this causes, The Pokémon Company (TPC) has acknowledged the situation in a statement on their website, admitting that some fans are "experiencing difficulties purchasing certain Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) products due to very high demand impacting availability."

"We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to acknowledge this," the statement continued. "Reprinted products are expected to be available at participating retailers as soon as possible."

In a move to prevent future shortages, TPC has pledged to "maximize production" for upcoming TCG expansions to ensure more products are available right from the launch. The company also committed to continuously reprinting affected products to keep the stock replenished, including at the Pokémon Center.

Addressing the issue of scalpers, albeit indirectly, TPC emphasized their commitment to providing a seamless purchasing experience at the Pokémon Center. They have implemented a virtual queue system to manage high site traffic, ensuring that products get into the hands of genuine fans first. "We will continue to explore measures that help create the best possible experience for Pokémon Center customers," they stated, expressing gratitude to the community for their ongoing support and patience as they strive to improve the availability of Pokémon TCG products.

With these assurances, fans can hope for a smoother experience in collecting and enjoying the Pokémon TCG as new sets become available.
