Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Get ready for a dungeon-crawling adventure! Nintendo announced that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be available on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service starting August 9th. This classic Game Boy Advance title offers a unique roguelike experience within the Pokémon universe. Players transform into Pokémon and embark on quests to solve the mystery of their transformation. The game originally launched in 2006 and was later remade as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX for the Switch in 2020.

Mainline Pokémon Games Still Sought After

While the addition of Red Rescue Team is welcome news, many fans continue to express their desire for mainline Pokémon games (like Pokémon Red and Blue) to be added to the Expansion Pack. The current selection features primarily spin-off titles such as Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Puzzle League. Speculation regarding the absence of mainline games centers around potential challenges with N64 Transfer Pak compatibility, Nintendo Switch Online infrastructure limitations, and integration with the Pokémon Home app. The complexities of interoperability and licensing agreements may be contributing factors.

Further benefits include bonus Gold Points on game purchases (August 5th-18th) and upcoming multiplayer game trials (August 19th-25th; titles to be announced). A Mega Multiplayer game sale will also follow from August 26th to September 8th, 2024.
