Pokémon TCG Pocket Stays Casual

Pokémon TCG Pocket Will Remain Casual For Now

The Pokémon Company currently has no intentions of bringing Pokémon TCG Pocket to its official tournament circuit. Discover why this digital card game isn't joining competitive play and understand the factors influencing this decision.

Competitive Play Not Currently Planned

Pokémon TCG Competitive Scene Excludes Pocket Version

Pokémon TCG Pocket won't be joining the competitive circuit anytime soon. During a February 25, 2025 interview with VGC, The Pokémon Company's Director of eSports Chris Brown confirmed they continually evaluate new titles for competitive potential, but Pokémon TCG Pocket hasn't made the cut yet.

Lightheartedly mentioning "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing their April Fool's joke tournament trailer, Brown clarified "At this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, though we're always reviewing possibilities."

Still Finding Its Footing

Balancing Concerns Keep Pokémon TCG Pocket Casual

While official reasons haven't been provided, the gaming community points to several likely factors. Having launched just four months prior in October 2024 with only two card sets released, Pokémon TCG Pocket remains in its early phases.

The app includes competitive-style features, but players consistently request balancing improvements before considering tournament readiness. Designed as a streamlined, beginner-friendly alternative to the physical card game, competitive play wasn't central to its original vision.

Pokémon fans still have plenty of competitive options through Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite - all featured in the August 2025 Pokémon World Championships held in Anaheim, California.

Potential New Set Announcement Coming

The upcoming Pokémon Presents broadcast might unveil fresh Pokémon TCG Pocket content, as Space Time Smackdown launched back on January 30, 2025. While no official agenda has been shared, enthusiasts anticipate significant franchise announcements.

Despite minimal updates since its 2024 reveal, Pokémon Legends: Z-A remains highly anticipated with a projected 2025 release. The presentation could showcase new Mega Evolutions or related content alongside updates about Pokémon's various titles.
